Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced recalls last week for products that may pose a risk of injury to consumers. Here are Top Class Actions’ top recalls for the week of April 1.

Roller ball candy recalled due to choking hazard

Twenty Four Six Foods LLC issued a recall notice and warning for approximately 290,000 units of Happiness USA Liquid Rolling Candy.

The recall applies to all varieties of the candy, which are available in blue raspberry, strawberry and green apple flavors.

The candies have a rolling ball applicator for tongue application and feature a resealable bottle with a twist-on plastic cap, according to the recall notice.

The roller ball in the candy can dislodge and create a choking hazard, which resulted in the death of a 7-year-old child and the hospitalization of another, the recall notice states.

Consumers should stop using the product immediately. They can receive a full refund by contacting Twenty Four Six Foods directly at 833-436-1200 or recall246foods@gmail.com.

Polaris recalls snowmobiles due to potential fuel leak

Polaris initiated a recall for more than 10,000 model year 2022-2023 Polaris snowmobiles equipped with Patriot Boost engines due to potential fuel line leaks, which pose a fire hazard risk.

Polaris says it received 17 reports of fuel leaks but no reports of injuries.

The affected snowmobile models include the Pro RMK Slash, RMK Khaos Slash, INDY VR1 and Switchback Assault, which are available in various black and custom color combinations, according to the recall. Consumers can identify these snowmobiles by the Polaris stamp on the front side panel and VIN and model number located on the right side of the vehicle’s frame.

The recall affects 7,000 snowmobiles sold in the United States and around 3,100 sold in Canada, the recall notice states.

Polaris advises consumers to stop using the snowmobiles immediately. Polaris dealers will conduct fuel line repairs as part of the recall process.

Subaru issues recall for Outback, Legacy vehicles

Subaru issued a recall for nearly 120,000 model year 2020-2022 Outback and Legacy vehicles due to potential defects in their front passenger airbag sensors.

The capacitor within the front passenger airbag sensors could develop cracks and short circuit, preventing the airbag from deploying during a collision, according to the recall notice.

Subaru says it plans to replace all four occupant detection sensors on the front passenger seats of the affected vehicles through its dealership network, the recall notice states. Additionally, the company will provide reimbursement to owners for any repair expenses.

Owners of the impacted vehicles can expect to receive an interim notification letter from Subaru around May 21, 2024, followed by a final notification letter once an adequate supply of replacement parts is available.

BJ’s announces tiki torches recall due to burn risk

BJ’s Wholesale Club issued a recall for approximately 90,000 Berkley Jensen Citronella 72-inch Tiki Torches.

The tiki torches feature black, gray, copper-plated or nickel-plated torch tops with fiberglass wicks, the recall notice states. BJ’s recalled the torches because the top can break open or detach while the torch is lit, posing a burn hazard to consumers.

The recall follows nine incident reports resulting in two burn injuries, according to the recall notice. Consumers should stop using the recalled tiki torches immediately and either dispose of them, destroy them or return them to BJ’s for a full refund.

For further inquiries regarding the recall, consumers can contact BJ’s Wholesale Club via telephone at 800-257-2582 or by visiting the company’s website.

Vancomycin recall issued due to potency issues

Amneal Pharmaceuticals issued a recall for four lots of its vancomycin hydrochloride oral solution due to overfilled bottles, which may result in patients receiving a higher dose of vancomycin than prescribed.

The recall affects lots 22613003A, 22613004A, 22613005A and 22613005B packaged in 80-, 150- and 300-milliliter bottles with expiration dates of September 2025.

Given that the highest recommended daily dose of vancomycin oral solution is 2 grams per day, patients prescribed a dosing regimen of 500 milligrams/10 milliliters would exceed this allowance, the recall notice states. This excess dosage could pose potential harm to individuals with renal issues, potentially leading to electrolyte abnormalities such as high potassium levels, which, in severe cases, could result in cardiac arrest.

While Amneal Pharmaceuticals has not received reports of illness directly linked to the recall, the company encourages customers and retailers to stop using the affected product, according to the recall notice. Consumers can contact Amneal at 833-582-0812 or by email at vancomycin_recall@amneal.com during business hours.
