Roller ball candy recall overview:

  • Who: The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall notice for 290,000 Happiness USA Liquid Rolling Candy and a warning against any roller ball candy.
  • Why: The candy can dislodge and lead to a choking hazard, the CPSC says.
  • Where: The roller ball candy warning is effective across the United States.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall notice and roller ball candy warning for 290,000 Happiness USA Liquid Rolling Candy after choking issues from the products.

The recall involves all varieties of the candy, which comes in blue raspberry, strawberry and green apple flavors with about 1 fluid ounce of liquid candy.

The product, manufactured by Twenty Four Six Foods LLC, contains a flavored liquid candy with a rolling ball applicator to apply onto the tongue. The bottle is resealable with a twist on the plastic cap. The recalled candies say “Funtime Roller Ball Candy” on the front and “Happiness USA” on the back.

The CPSC issued the warning because the roller ball in the candy can dislodge and create a choking hazard. The problem led to the choking death of one 7-year-old and the hospitalization of another, the roller ball candy warning says.

The CPSC has issued three roller ball candy recalls, the latest being for Happiness USA Liquid Rolling Candy

Roller ball candy recall: 7-year-old was hospitalized, had surgery to remove rolling ball

Twenty Four Six Foods says it has received one report of the rolling ball dislodging, resulting in a 7-year-old child choking in New Jersey in July 2023. The child underwent emergency surgery to successfully remove the rolling ball from his throat.

The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Twenty Four Six Foods is asking customers to stop using the candy immediately, take it away from children and contact the company for a full refund.

The company can be reached at 833-436-1200 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Eastern, Monday through Thursday, or at recall246foods@gmail.com.

Candy Dynamics announced a recall in October 2023 for around 70 million of its Slime Licker Sour Rolling Liquid Candy products over concerns a rolling ball located in their container can detach inside a child’s mouth, creating a choking hazard.
