Laundry detergent recall overview:

  • Who: Procter & Gamble recalled more than 8.2 million laundry detergent packets from brands including Tide, Gain, Ace and Ariel.
  • Why: The bags holding the laundry detergent packets can split open below the zipper track.
  • Where: The recall is valid across the United States and Canada.

Procter & Gamble issued a recall for more than 8.2 million laundry detergent packets, including Tide, Gain, Ace and Ariel, because the packets can split open below the zipper track, making them no longer childproof.

The recall includes 8.2 million packages in the United States and 56,741 in Canada.

The recall includes:

  • Gain Flings Original
  • Gain Flings Blissful Breeze Scent
  • Gain Flings Spring Daydream Scent
  • Gain Flings Plus Ultra Oxi
  • Gain Flings Plus Odor Defense
  • Tide Pods Original
  • Tide Pods Spring Meadow Scent
  • Tide Pods Light
  • Tide Simply Pods Plus Oxi Boost
  • Tide Pods Clean Breeze Scent
  • Tide Pods Free & Gentle
  • Tide Pods Oxi
  • Ace Pods Clean Breeze
  • Ace Pods Spring Meadow
  • Ariel Pods Alpine Breeze

The recall includes bags with 12 to 39 laundry detergent packets manufactured between September 2023 and February 2024.

Procter & Gamble has received four reports of children in the United States accessing the laundry packets with three ingesting them but does not know if the packets were from the recalled lots.

The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Consumers should stop using the laundry packets immediately and contact Procter & Gamble for a refund and replacement at 833-347-5764 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET Saturday or online.

A December 2022 class action lawsuit alleges Procter & Gamble misleadingly advertises Tide detergent as containing enough product for 64 loads when the small print clarifies it is only if a consumer uses a small amount of detergent per load.
