Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced recalls last week for products that may pose a risk of injury to consumers. Here are Top Class Actions’ top recalls for the week of March 25.

Nestlé recalls metallic Starbucks mugs due to burn, laceration hazards

Nestlé initiated a recall affecting more than 440,000 metallic Starbucks mugs featured in holiday gift sets and distributed in 2023. The mugs can potentially overheat and break, creating laceration hazards.

The recall covers four distinct gift sets, each containing ceramic mugs with metallic coating and bearing the Starbucks logo. Available in 11- and 16-ounce variants, the mugs were part of sets named Starbucks Holiday Gift Set with 2 Mugs, Starbucks Classic Hot Cocoa and Mug, Starbucks Peppermint and Classic Hot Cocoas and Mug and Starbucks Holiday Blend Coffee and Mug.

Nestlé recalled the mugs after receiving reports of 12 incidents involving overheating or breakage, resulting in 10 injuries, including severe burns and blisters on fingers or hands, as well as one instance of a finger laceration requiring medical attention.

Consumers should stop using the mugs immediately and return them to the point of purchase for either a cash refund or gift card, the recall notice states.

Fisher-Price issues recall for Donald, Daisy Duck figures due to choking risk

Fisher-Price issued a new recall affecting approximately 204,000 plastic figures of Donald and Daisy Duck due to concerns the figures’ heads could potentially detach, presenting a choking hazard for young children.

Fisher-Price disclosed it received three reports of the heads detaching from the recalled figures, with one incident occurring while a child used the figure.

Consumers should immediately stop using the affected Donald and Daisy Duck figures, take them from children and contact Fisher-Price to obtain a prepaid return label, the recall notice states. Upon return, consumers will receive a $10 refund.

The recalled Donald and Daisy Duck figures were sold nationwide at various stores, including Walmart, Kohl’s, Meijer, HEB and Kroger, as well as through online platforms like Amazon.com and Walmart.com from May 2023 through February 2024, priced around $20.

Stellantis issues recall for Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300 vehicles

Chrysler is recalling 285,000 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 vehicles manufactured between 2018 and 2021.

The recall stems from concerns regarding the potential rupture of the inflator for the vehicles’ side airbag inflatable curtain, which could affect airbag deployment.

The ruptured inflator could lead to the rapid release of compressed gas and potential material projection into the vehicle, the recall notice states. Chrysler attributes the issue to the possible introduction of moisture during the manufacturing process, resulting in internal corrosion and eventual inflator rupture.

Chrysler will reimburse vehicle owners for expenses incurred due to the recall and requests original receipts or other relevant proof of payment for verification.

Trader Joe’s cashews recalled due to potential salmonella contamination

Wenders initiated a recall for specific lots of Trader Joe’s Nuts due to potential contamination with salmonella.

Wenders distributed the affected cashews, identifiable by SKU No. 37884 and lot Nos. T12139, T12140, T12141 and T1214, to Trader Joe’s stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Washington.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration discovered the salmonella contamination during routine testing following importation from India and Vietnam, the recall notice states. At least one of the lots tested positive for salmonella.

Wenders says it has not received any reports of illness associated with the cashews.

As a precautionary measure, consumers should not eat the cashews and should return them to Trader Joe’s for a full refund, according to the recall notice.

Honeywell initiates recall announced for fire alarm sounders, strobes

Honeywell issued a recall affecting approximately 29,000 System Sensor fire alarm sounders and strobes due to potential malfunctions that could result in their failure to properly alert consumers.

The recall specifically targets Honeywell’s System Sensor L-series low-frequency sounders and strobes designed for residential apartments and commercial buildings.

Honeywell has not reported injuries in connection with the recall; however, it received two reports of instances in which the fire alarm sounders and strobes exhibited low or no sound output during installation, according to the recall notice.

Consumers should contact the company to facilitate a free inspection and repair of the recalled fire alarm sounders and strobes.
