$23.9M Costa Del Mar sunglasses repair class action settlement

Costa Del Mar agreed to a $23.9 million class action settlement to resolve claims its high, undisclosed repair fees blindsided consumers.

The Costa Del Mar settlement benefits U.S. citizens (excluding Florida residents) who purchased nonprescription, non-promotional Costa sunglasses before Jan. 1, 2018, and who were charged a repair fee between April 3, 2015, and Jan. 28, 2026, to repair or replace components of their sunglasses that Costa determined were damaged as a result of accident, normal wear and tear or misuse. Repairs must have exceeded $11.95 to be included in the settlement.

According to the class action lawsuit, Costa Del Mar promised to replace scratched lenses, frames and other parts of its sunglasses for a nominal fee but charged consumers more than the low promised fees. The sunglasses repair lawsuit claims Costa Del Mar did not disclose these repair charges to customers before they mailed in their sunglasses.

Costa Del Mar is an eyewear company that sells sunglasses and prescription glasses.

Costa Del Mar has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $23.9 million class action settlement to resolve these allegations.

Under the terms of the Costa Del Mar settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the number of sunglasses they had repaired and the amount they paid for these repairs.

Class members who had one pair of sunglasses repaired for more than $11.95 will receive a proportional share of the settlement fund. Class members who had multiple pairs of sunglasses repaired will receive a larger proportional share of the settlement fund. Exact payment amounts will vary.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Oct. 26, 2026.

The final approval hearing for the Costa Del Mar settlement is scheduled for Dec. 14, 2026.

No claim form is required to benefit from the settlement. Class members who do not exclude themselves will automatically receive a settlement payment.
