Automakers recently initiated vehicle recalls over concerns involving airbags, tailgates, weight capacity labels, fuel leaks, front cameras and wheels.

An automaker may choose to initiate a vehicle recall if it determines the vehicle contains a defect that could endanger its driver, passengers and other vehicles on the road.

Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300 vehicles recalled over airbag concerns

Stellantis and its subsidiary FCA US issued a recall for nearly 285,000 model year 2018-2021 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 vehicles last month over concerns they were equipped with side airbag inflators that could rupture, causing the vehicles’ airbags not to inflate

The recall involves 217,802 Dodge Charger vehicles produced July 5, 2018-May 20, 2021, and 67,180 Chrysler 300 vehicles produced July 5, 2018-May 19, 2021.

While no injuries have been reported in connection with the recall, Stellantis says it is aware of two warranty claims and five customer assistance records potentially related to the issue, according to the notice.

GM expands recall to include more trucks with tailgate defect

General Motors expanded a recall last month to include an additional 570,343 trucks in the United States that the automaker says may contain a tailgate issue that could increase the risk of an accident.

The expanded recall involves 311,368 2020-2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 and 259,066 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 trucks, adding to 323,232 trucks the automaker recalled in early February.

General Motors says water could get into the tailgates, short circuiting their electronic gate-release switch and causing it to unlatch while the vehicle is in park, the recall states.

Chrysler recalls Dodge Hornet, Alfa Romeo Tonale SUVs

Chrysler issued a recall for more than 36,000 of its model year 2023-2024 Dodge Hornet and Alfa Romeo Tonale SUVs in March over inaccurate weight capacity label concerns.

The recall includes 30,061 Dodge Hornet SUVs produced Aug. 31, 2022-Feb. 13, 2024, and 6,032 Alfa Romeo Tonale SUVs produced Feb. 9, 2023-Feb. 10, 2024.

Chrysler says it is concerned a driver might overload the recalled vehicles by relying on the inaccurate weight capacity labels, which could cause the SUVs to crash “without prior warning,” according to the recall notice.

Volkswagen recalls vehicles over fuel leak concerns

Volkswagen Group of America issued a recall for more than 260,000 vehicles in February over concerns they were equipped with a defective part that could cause them to leak fuel, creating a fire risk.

The recall includes:

  • 2015-2020 Audi A3 Sedans, Volkswagen Golf GTIs and Volkswagen Golf A7s
  • 2015-2019 Audi A3 Cabriolets
  • 2019-2020 Volkswagen Jetta GLIs
  • 2018 Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen GPs
  • 2018-2019 Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen A7s
  • 2015-2017 Volkswagen Golf Sportwagens

Volkswagen says it is concerned the vehicles were equipped with a suction jet pump containing a defect that could cause fuel to leak into the vehicles’ evaporative emissions systems and then potentially through their charcoal canister filter element, according to the recall notice.

Jeep SUVs recalled over concerns a wheel could fall outward

FCA Chrysler issued a recall for more than 330,000 model year 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L SUVs and 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs in February over concerns a wheel could detach and fall outward without warning.

The recall involves 249,752 model year 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L SUVs and 88,468 model year 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs.

Jeep says it is concerned a bolt in the suspensions of the recalled vehicles was damaged during assembly and could break, leading to a wheel falling outward from the vehicle and causing it to crash without warning, the recall states.

GM recalls 55,000 Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon vehicles

General Motors issued a recall for more than 55,000 model year 2023 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles in February over concerns they contain front camera systems that could improperly detect an obstacle

The recall involves 46,708 model year 2023 Chevrolet Colorado vehicles and 9,047 model year 2023 GMC Canyon vehicles.

General Motors says it is concerned a front camera system falsely detecting an obstacle could prompt the vehicles’ to unnecessarily engage automatic emergency braking, increasing the risk of a crash, according to the recall notice.
