General Motors issued a recall for more than 55,000 newer-model Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles over concerns their front camera systems could prompt unnecessary automatic emergency braking.

The recall involves 46,708 model year 2023 Chevrolet Colorado vehicles and 9,047 model year 2023 GMC Canyon vehicles.

General Motors said it is concerned that, under certain conditions, the front camera module systems on the recalled vehicles could falsely detect an obstacle, causing an automatic emergency braking event.

“If an unwarranted AEB event occurs and causes the vehicle to unnecessarily stop or slow down, there is an increased risk of a crash,” the GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado recall states.

General Motors said its dealers will update the software in the front camera modules on the recalled Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles, which the company said should correct the issue.

The automaker is planning to notify vehicle owners about the recall April 8, 2024, according to the Chevy recall.

GM recalled more than 320,000 of its model year 2020-2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks in February over concerns they contain tailgates that could inadvertently unlatch while the vehicle is in park.
