Jeep Grand Cherokee recall overview:

  • Who: FCA Chrysler issued a recall for more than 330,000 of its model year 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L SUVs and model year 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs.
  • Why: The recall was initiated over concerns a damaged bolt could cause a wheel on the vehicle to fall outward, without warning.
  • Where: The recall affects certain Jeep Grand Cherokee owners nationwide.

FCA Chrysler issued a Jeep Grand Cherokee recall for more than 330,000 vehicles earlier this month over concerns an issue with a suspension component could cause a wheel to detach and fall outward from the vehicle without warning.

The recall affects 249,752 model year 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L SUVs and 88,486 model year 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs.

FCA said the recalled Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs may contain upper control arm (UCA) pinch bolts that were damaged during vehicle assembly and could now break and result in the loss of clamp load between the vehicles’ UCA ball joint and knuckle.

A loss of clamp load may result in the UCA separating from the knuckle and the wheel falling outboard, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning,” the recall says.

Jeep Grand Cherokee recall: Owners may notice abnormal noise while driving over bumps

Vehicle owners may notice an abnormal noise when driving over bumps, according to the recall, which states the automaker will remedy the issue by replacing the pinch bolts on the recalled vehicles.

FCA also said it will reimburse those who have already paid out-of-pocket to fix the issue, per its “longstanding policy and practice,” so long as vehicle owners send proof of payment.

The automaker expects to notify vehicle owners about the recall on April 12, 2024. Drivers with more questions about the recall can contact FCA directly by telephone at 1-800-853-1403.

FCA also recalled nearly 200,000 Jeep Wrangler Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) SUVs and Jeep Grand Cherokee PHEV SUVs in February over concerns incorrectly-programmed software could cause their windshield defrost systems not to function in certain conditions.
