A new Hyundai class action lawsuit claims that 2020 or newer Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade vehicles have improperly sealed headlight assemblies, allowing moisture to enter dimming the headlights over time.
According to plaintiff Ahmand Young’s class action, vehicle owners have informed Hyundai and Kia about the headlight issues, both during and immediately after the vehicle warranty periods, and yet the automakers — Hyundai is Kia’s parent company — have still charged for associated repairs.
Reports to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show dealerships are often making the headlight repairs, the Telluride class action says.
“Drivers … are unable to see at a distance in front of them, are unable to see in inclement weather and while driving at night, and are unable to see potential road hazards, including people, animals and objects,” the Hyundai headlight lawsuit says. “The headlight defect endangers drivers, pedestrians, and other vehicles because it makes accidents wherein the vehicle strikes a person, animal, or object in the roadway more likely.”
Hyundai sent technical service bulletins on issues, but not to customers
The lawsuit accuses Hyundai of working to keep the headlight issue hidden by sending technical service bulletins to authorized repair facilities but not informing customers about the Hyundai headlight issues.
The issue can lead headlights to suddenly dim and can make high beams ineffective, the Palisade class action says.
Young is asking for Hyundai and Kia to pay to fix the allegedly defective headlights as well as for additional monetary damages. The plaintiff also seeks for the automakers to be ordered to notify customers about the alleged headlight issues.
Hyundai recently agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that some of its vehicles are defective and susceptible to theft.

One thought on Hyundai class action claims Palisade, Telluride vehicles contain headlight defect
We have experienced this exact issue with high beams suddenly not working which lead to a collision with deer in the road on the way home one night. This ended up costing thousands and thousands in damage repair to my 2020 Kia Telluride, had to pay for a rental vehicle for weeks while it got fixed, had to miss work to facilitate running around dropping my vehicle off, getting the rental, etc and has been a nightmare. When I submitted my claim to Kia for reimbursement, at first they took it very seriously and escalated to a higher department due to the accident caused by defective high beams… but it’s been many months and they keep putting us through circles and not doing anything about it and keep saying a supervisor is reviewing this. We are quite frustrated on many levels between time spent, money spent, and now the damage on my cars history lowest it’s resale value greatly.
