Volkswagen has agreed to a class action settlement to resolve claims that certain Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles are equipped with a defective engine water pump.
The Volkswagen settlement benefits current and former owners and lessees of 2018-2022 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles equipped with a 3.6-liter engine.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim that Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles are equipped with a defective engine water pump. This defect allegedly causes premature failure and coolant leaks.
Volkswagen is a car manufacturer that sells several brands of vehicles, including Audi, Porsche and Lamborghini.
Volkswagen has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Volkswagen Atlas settlement, class members can receive a warranty extension or reimbursement.
The Volkswagen settlement extends the New Vehicle Limited Warranties for Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles to cover 80% of the cost of repair or replacement of a failed main engine water pump. This extension applies for up to 8.5 years or 85,000 miles.
Class members who paid out of pocket for repairs or replacements of their Volkswagen Atlas or Atlas Cross Sport engine water pump can receive reimbursement for these costs. The settlement allows for 80% reimbursement for one engine water pump repair or replacement and up to two head gasket repairs or replacements. Reimbursement is capped at $820 for engine water pump repairs and $3,325 for head gasket repairs.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Aug. 5, 2026.
The final approval hearing for the Volkswagen settlement is scheduled for Sept. 10, 2026.
To receive settlement benefits, class members must download and send a valid claim form first-class mail, post-marked no later than October 5, 2026.
