A&C Best Food Dried Wife Plum Licorice Flavor Olive Sulfite Recalls Overview:

  • Who: A&C Best Food Trading issued separate recalls for its Dried Wife Plum and Licorice Flavor Olive products.
  • Why: The recall was initiated after it was discovered the products contained undeclared sulfites, while the Dried Wife Plum also contains the unallowed dye E123.
  • Where: The recalled products were distributed nationwide.

A pair of recalls have been initiated over the presence of undeclared sulfites in A&C Best Food Trading’s Dried Wife Plum and Licorice Flavor Olive products.

A&C Best’s Dried Wife Plum was also found to contain the unallowed dye E123, according to a recall notice published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recall, which was announced Mar. 23 and published by the FDA on Mar. 24, includes batches of A&C’s Dried Wife Plum that were nationally sold in clear plastic jars with a product code of 2021/10/15 stamped on the bottom.

A&C initiated the recall after routine testing by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets revealed the product contained a higher level of sulfites than what is listed on the product’s labeling.

The issue was confirmed by a subsequent analysis by personnel from the New York State Laboratory, according to the recall.

A&C Also Recalls Licorice Flavor Olive Over Undeclared Sulfites

A&C also issued a recall for its Licorice Flavor Olive on Mar. 22 after the same routine testing and lab analysis discovered it contained a high level of sulfites that had not been declared on the product’s labeling.

The recall includes batches of Licorice Flavor Olive that were distributed nationally and sold in clear plastic jars with the product code 2021/10/15 stamped on its bottom, according to a recall notice published by the FDA on Mar. 23.

Individuals who are sensitive to sulfites can have serious or life-threatening adverse reactions if they consume them, according to the recall.

The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions, including anaphylactic shock in some asthmatics and sensitive individuals,” the recalls state.

The company says no illnesses have been reported on account of either of the recalled items; however, A&C is advising consumers who are sensitive to sulfites to not consume either of the products.

Consumers with questions about either of the recalls can contact the distributor by email or A&C Manager Allen Lin directly at 917-418-1115.

Undeclared sulfites were also part of the reason for an August 2021 recall the company Jimbo’s Kitchen initiated for its Bloody Mary Mix.

Jimbo’s initiated the recall for its Bloody Mary Mix after discovering it may have contained undeclared sulfites, wheat, and soy.
