Cavendish Farms Hash Brown Recall Alert Overview:

  • Who: Canadian company Cavendish Farms Corporation is recalling 441 cases of hash brown patties.
  • Why: The patties may contain undeclared wheat.
  • Where: The patties were distributed in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.

A multistate recall has been issued for a brand of hash brown patties as they may contain undeclared wheat.

The recall notice was issued on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website Mar. 14, and applies to Cavendish Farms 42.3 oz. packages of Original Hash Brown Patties. The patties are being recalled because they may contain undeclared wheat.

“People who have allergies to wheat or celiac disease run the risk of serious allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the FDA says.

The recalled patties were sold in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island in supermarkets including ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, The Fresh Grocer and Fairway Market. The stores have removed the product from shelves.

No confirmed illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem, the company said.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Cavendish Farms Supplier Discovered Hash Brown Patty Problem

The patty recall was initiated after Cavendish Farms was notified by a supplier that its product had been mislabeled, the FDA notice says.

The product comes in a 42.3 oz. package with the UPC code 0 56210 34217 1 and a best-before date of 2024 FE 01 stamped on the side.

Anyone who bought the product is “urged to dispose of or return to the location where they were purchased,” according to the recall notice.

Earlier this month, Stutzman Farms recalled all of its products that include einkorn, including berries, flour, pretzels, nuts and crackers, because the products all contain wheat but do not declare wheat on the product labels.
