Lennar class action lawsuit overview:

A new class action lawsuit accuses Lennar Corp. and Lennar Mortgage of failing to protect customers’ and employees’ sensitive personal information during a data breach.
Plaintiff Lisa DiMeglio, a Lennar home buyer and mortgage customer, claims her Social Security number, driver’s license number and other sensitive data were compromised when hackers infiltrated Lennar’s computer systems twice in 2026.
DiMeglio says the first intrusion occurred around March 2026, followed by a second breach between May and June 2026, together exposing sensitive information belonging to tens of thousands of customers and employees.
As a result, DiMeglio alleges she experienced unauthorized access or attempted access to at least one of her accounts, fraudulent transactions attempted in her name, and an increase in spam calls and text messages.
“The data breach was a direct, foreseeable and even likely result of [Lennar’s] deficient cybersecurity practices,” the Lennar class action lawsuit claims.
Furthermore, the plaintiff claims Lennar failed to detect unauthorized access to its systems in a timely manner and failed to promptly contain the intrusion once it occurred.
The class action lawsuit accuses Lennar of negligence and negligence per se, arguing the company had a duty under the Federal Trade Commission Act to secure the sensitive information it collected.
DiMeglio wants to represent a nationwide class of individuals whose sensitive information was exposed in the Lennar data breach. She is demanding a jury trial.
Lennar allegedly kept sensitive information longer than necessary
The Lennar class action lawsuit claims the scope of the data breach was made worse because Lennar kept customers’ and employees’ sensitive information long after it was reasonably necessary for any legitimate business purpose.
According to the lawsuit, Lennar’s prolonged retention of the data increased both the amount of information exposed and the severity of the harm caused by the intrusion.
The class action lawsuit also claims Lennar failed to take basic cybersecurity precautions. According to the complaint, Lennar failed to adequately train employees on phishing, social engineering and ransomware attacks and failed to implement procedures to mitigate those risks.
Additionally, the company was also negligent in implementing advanced email security platforms with phishing detection, monitoring its systems for suspicious activity and adequately encrypting sensitive information it collected, the lawsuit claims.
In June, San Diego-based Plaza Home Mortgage notified customers and employees of a data security incident that may have compromised their personal information.
