Community Dental Care agreed to a class action settlement to resolve claims that it failed to prevent a 2024 data breach that compromised sensitive patient information.

The Community Dental Care settlement benefits individuals whose personal information was accessed without authorization in the December 2024 Community Dental Care data breach.

Consumers filed a class action lawsuit claiming Community Dental Care failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures that could have prevented the 2024 data breach. As a result, sensitive patient information was allegedly compromised, putting consumers at risk for identity theft and fraud.

Community Dental Care is one of the largest nonprofit dental service providers in Minnesota.

Community Dental Care has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the Community Dental Care settlement, class members can receive a cash payment and credit monitoring benefits.

Class members who experienced documented losses as a result of the Community Dental Care data breach can receive up to $5,000 for out-of-pocket expenses, such as identity theft losses, credit fees, bank expenses and more. These payments will reduce the amount available for other class members.

Class members who did not experience documented losses can receive a one-time payment of $50.

All class members are eligible for two years of free medical and credit monitoring through CyEx Medical Shield Pro. This service includes $1 million of medical identity theft insurance and monitoring for healthcare insurance ID exposure, medical record number exposure and unauthorized health savings account spending.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Sept. 24, 2026.

The final approval hearing for the class action settlement is scheduled for Nov. 23, 2026.

To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Oct. 19, 2026.
