Federal Cartridge has reportedly issued a Blackhawk gun holster recall due to an injury hazard.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall notice for Blackhawk T-Series L2C gun holsters on Oct. 22, 2019.

According to the manufacturer, the firearm’s safety can unknowingly be switched off due to the design of the holster. When the safety switch on the gun is off, it can fire unexpectedly, potentially leading to severe injury or even death.

Blackhawk T-Series L2C gun holsters were sold at Bass Pro Shops, along with other outdoor sports stores, for approximately $65 between June and August 2019. Approximately 3,100 recalled gun holsters were sold.

The manufacturer, the Federal Cartridge Company of Manhattan, Mont., is offering a full refund to consumers who purchased the recalled gun holster.

According to Fox 59, Sig Sauer P320/P250 firearms are meant to be used with the recalled gun holster.  KKTV 11 reports that the recalled gun holster is designed to clip to the user’s hip and is engraved with “2101213 A” on the outside.

The CPSC gun holster recall notice indicates that no injuries have been reported due to the defect.

Consumers affected by the gun holster recall notice should cease using the product immediately and contact Federal Cartridge for a full refund. Consumers can contact the manufacturer at 888-343-7547.

“Out of an abundance of caution for our customers safety,” notes the company’s website, “we are voluntarily recalling the L2C for use with Sig P320/P250 M17/M18 (SKU 410761BKR) and marked with the code 2101213A.”

“There is nothing per se wrong with the holster,” they continue, “but rather Sig Sauer made available to consumers its military versions of the P320/250 under the military model numbers M17 and M18.  An internal review of the referenced holster with the military firearm (M17/M18) showed that the holster may interfere with the mechanical fire safety switch of the M17/M18. We value our customers safety and are committed to full transparency, which is the reason we elected to voluntarily report this to the CPSC and recall the product.”

Consumers can also head to Blackhawk’s website and select the “Recalls” tab at the bottom of the homepage for more information.

Recall Reports

In this instance, the manufacturer voluntarily recalled an item after discovering it presented a safety hazard. The federal consumer protection agency, CPSC, will issue a notice when a product is recalled.

Many types of products have been subject to recalls, including baby powder, John Deere utility vehicles, exercise equipment, and infant bibs. Information about recalled items can be found on CPSC’s website. There, consumers learn about the hazard presented by the recalled item, along with how to fix the problem or obtain a refund.
