The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that Fit For Life has recalled the SPRI Ultra Heavy Resistance Bands over concerns that the device can cause injuries.
The recall was reportedly implemented on Oct. 4, 2019, and affects around 95,000 units.
Reportedly, the recall was implemented after consumers reported that the resistance bands can separate from the handles and hit consumers during use, which may cause injury.
According to the CPSC, Fit for Life has received 10 reports of incidents involving the bands, including six instances in which customers had been injured. The CPSC says that the injuries include abrasions, contusions, and lacerations.
The CPSC explains that the SPRI Ultra Heavy Resistance Tubes or bands are intended for exercise use. The bands are black with nylon webbing, and they have two handles. Reportedly, SPRI is printed on the handles in white, and model number 02-71669 is printed on the bottom of the packages. Additionally, some of the bands have KN08/18, KN09/18 or KN10/18 printed on the handle.
Customers are advised to stop using the SPRI Ultra Heavy Resistance Bands. Customers can contact Fit for Life for a refund of their purchase in the form of store credit in the amount of the purchase price or a free replacement band.
Affected customers can contact Fit for Life by phone at 800-222-7774, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mountain Time, Monday Through Friday or by email at help@spri.com.Â
The affected bands were sold at Walmart stores around the country, and on Walmart’s website, between August 2018 and July 2019. They retailed for around $10.
The SPRI Ultra Heavy Resistance Bands were manufactured in China, and were imported by Fit for Life LLC, of New York N.Y. The recall number is 20-005.
Customers are invited to report an incident involving the SPRI Ultra Heavy Resistance Bands on the CPSC website.
The CPSC notes that the recall was conducted voluntarily by Fit for Life, as part of the CPSC’s Fast Track Recall process, in an effort to best protect consumers from possible injury.
Recalls can help protect customers from defective and possibly dangerous products, and can help hold companies accountable for producing quality products that adhere to safety standards.
