John Deere Gator Utility VehiclesJohn Deere has recalled its Gator utility vehicles and Frontier grooming mowers, according to recent statements issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

John Deere Recalls Gator Utility Vehicles

A recall affecting nearly 20,000 utility vehicles manufactured by John Deere was issued on Sept. 4, 2019. The Consumer Product Safety Commission, or CPSC, says the recall affects John Deere XUV835 Gator utility vehicles.

According to the Gator recall, the utility vehicles pose a crash hazard.

“The plastic sheathing on the throttle cable can melt due to improper routing, causing the throttle to stick. This could result in the operator not being able to stop the vehicle,” states the CSPC recall alert.

The recommended remedy is repair. Approximately 19,730 John Deere Gator utility vehicles were sold in the United States and 840 were sold in Canada.

The Sept. 4 recall is not the first affecting John Deere Gator utility vehicles. According to the company website different models of the John Deere Gator utility vehicles were recalled last September.

Approximately 5,000 of these vehicles were recalled, also for posing a crash hazard. The powertrain hardware in these vehicles, according to the CSPC recall alert, could come loose, leading to a sticky throttle and the user being unable to halt the Gator.

In addition, four other types of John Deere Gator utility vehicles were recalled in December 2017, also for presenting a crash hazard.

John Deere Recalls Also Affect Frontier Grooming Mowers

The CSPC has also issued a recall notice for certain John Deere grooming mowers.

The affected products include the Frontier FM3012, GM1060, GM1072, GM1084, GM1190, GM3060, and GM3072 grooming mowers, according to CSPC’s recall alert.

According to the Frontier recall, the mowers present hazard to consumers.

“Incorrect assembly of the mower’s drivelines can prevent the safety shield from spinning independently, posing an entanglement injury hazard to consumers,” states the alert.

The John Deere recall of the Frontier mowers is also dated Sept. 4, 2019. Approximately 730 of these mowers were sold in the United States and 20 were sold in Canada. The CSPC notice states that users should stop using the recalled Frontier mowers.

John Deere designs and manufactures outdoor equipment, from small mowers to major farming and construction machines. The company began in 1837, when, according to the company website, John Deere fashioned a saw blade into a mold for a plow appropriate for prairie soil.

In addition to the Gator utility vehicle and Frontier mower recalls, John Deere has also recalled snowblower and broom attachment kits for compact utility tractors this year.

“We strive to ensure that John Deere products are of exceptional quality. In the event that there is a Recall or Product Improvement Program on a John Deere product, we make every effort to get that important information to you as quickly as possible,” states John Deere’s recall website.

Those with a John Deere Gator utility vehicle and/or a recalled Frontier grooming mower should contract the company by phone at 800-537-8233 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET, or online at www.deere.com.
