Kia recall overview:

  • Who: Kia issued a recall for 22,883 of its model year 2024-2025 Kia EV9 hybrid electric vehicles.
  • Why: The automaker initiated the recall over concerns the EV9 vehicles contained missing seat bolts in their second- and/or third-row seats.
  • Where: The recall affects certain EV9 hybrid electric vehicle owners nationwide.

Kia issued a recall for nearly 23,000 of its model year 2024-2025 EV9 hybrid electric vehicles that may be missing seat bolts in their second- and/or third-row seats.

The recall involves certain Kia EV9 hybrid electric vehicles manufactured between Sept. 25, 2023, and Oct. 15, 2024.

The automaker attributed the issue to an error by an assembly plant worker at its Kia Autoland Gwangmyeong assembly plant in Korea.

“Seats with missing seat mounting bolts may not properly restrain an occupant during certain collisions, thereby increasing the risk of injury,” the Kia recall says.

Kia dealers to inspect, install any missing seat-mounting bolts

Affected vehicle owners may experience loose seats or hear a rattling noise, alerting them to the recall issue, Kia says in the recall notice.

The automaker says it will notify vehicle owners by mail on or around Jan. 24, 2025, with instructions to bring their vehicles to a Kia dealer for an inspection and have any missing seat-mounting bolts installed, according to the recall.

Individuals with more questions about the recall can contact Kia at 800-333-4542 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236.

Kia issued a separate recall for certain model year 2024 EV9 GT-Line and Land vehicles in September over concerns they contained a software issue that could result in insufficient brake pressure.
