Ford is recalling approximately 102,159 mostly F-series pickup trucks due to a defect in the speedometer that could lead to inaccurate speed readings, posing a potential crash risk.
The recall, announced on Oct. 20, affects the 2026 Ford F-150 and various 2025-2026 Super Duty models, including the Ford F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD, F-550 SD, F-600 SD and F-750 SD.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue involves the analog clusterโs tachometer and speedometer, which may become stuck or move erratically, failing to provide accurate speed readings to drivers.
This defect fails to meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) Number 101, which governs controls and displays.
Drivers can look out for differences between analog and digital speedometer readings
The recall highlights that drivers may notice a discrepancy between the analog and digital speedometer readings, if available. This issue could lead to misjudgment of speed, thereby increasing the risk of accidents.
Ford has assured owners that the instrument cluster modules will be replaced free of charge at dealerships.
Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed by Oct. 26, with additional notifications planned for December once the remedy is fully available.
Ford is taking proactive steps to address the issue by offering free replacements of the faulty instrument cluster modules at their dealerships. Vehicle owners are advised to take their cars to authorized dealers for the necessary repairs.
