Hyundai recall overview:
- Who: Hyundai is recalling 94,622 Genesis sedans and Genesis G80 models.
- Why: A defective power seat controller can overheat and potentially cause a fire.
- Where: The recall is effective in the United States.
Hyundai is recalling nearly 95,000 vehicles, specifically targeting certain Genesis models, due to a potential fire risk. This Hyundai recall affects specific 2015โ2016 Hyundai Genesis sedans and 2017โ2020 Genesis G80 vehicles due to malfunctioning power seat controls.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents, under recall 26V664, indicate that the power seat controls, particularly the seat slider and height adjustment lever on non-memory power front seats, can become dislodged or damaged.
This damage may cause the control to remain engaged, with continuous operation leading to potential overheating and the risk of fire.
Vehicle owners and drivers are therefore advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until a solution is implemented.
Consumers urged to be vigilant for defect signs, including burning odors
Hyundai has advised vehicle owners to be vigilant for signs of the defect, which include inoperative seat controls or a burning odor inside the vehicle. These indicators suggest that the power seat control may be damaged and overheating.
Currently, Hyundai is in the process of developing a remedy for the issue. Once a solution is available, the company will notify affected customers and provide instructions for bringing their vehicles to a dealership for a free repair.
Hyundai has also committed to reimbursing any out-of-pocket expenses incurred by owners in addressing the recall issue.
Owners of Hyundai vehicles may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460, and Genesis owners at 844-340-9741. The Hyundai recall number is 308 and the Genesis recall number is 035G.
For more information, concerned owners can visit the NHTSA website to check if their vehicle is part of the Hyundai Genesis recall. Hyundai will also send notification letters to dealers and owners beginning Dec. 7.
Hyundai says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the Hyundai recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
In other seat defect issues, Hyundai recently recalled 2026 model year Hyundai Ioniq 9 SUVs due to power-folding seats not detecting seat occupants.
