Toyota recall overview:

  • Who: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing is recalling 228,367 Sienna Hybrid 7-passenger vehicles.
  • Why: The second-row seat backs may not remain secured during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
  • Where: The recall is effective in the United States.

Toyota is recalling more than 228,000 Sienna Hybrid vehicles due to a defect that may cause the second-row seat backs to fail during a crash, potentially increasing the risk of injury.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall on Oct. 20 for certain 2022-2026 Toyota Sienna Hybrid 7-passenger models.

The issue arises from the seat backs not being properly secured, which could compromise occupant safety in the event of a collision. The recall identifies the problem with the supplemental restraint system (SRS) electronic control unit (ECU) software.

For vehicles equipped with the “Mobility as a Service” (MaaS) package, dealers will replace the two second-row seat backs. For other vehicles, they will provide a software update.

Toyota to send Sienna Hybrid owners notification letters

Toyota plans to send out notification letters to Sienna Hybrid owners starting Dec. 7 to inform them of the recall and the steps they need to take.

In the meantime, owners of the affected vehicles can contact their local Toyota dealers to arrange for the necessary repairs, which will be provided at no cost.

For more information, consumers can contact Toyota’s customer service at 1-800-331-4331. The numbers for this Toyota recall are 26TB24 and 26TA24. Alternatively, vehicle owners can check for updates on the NHTSA website.

Toyota says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the Toyota recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Meanwhile, Toyota also recalled 54,000 Sienna Hybrid minivans from the 2025 model year due to safety concerns about the welding of the second-row seat rails.
