Ford Motor Company issued a recall for 242,669 Ford Maverick pickup trucks over concerns their rear tail lights could fail to illuminate.
The recall involves model year 2022-2024 Ford Maverick vehicles produced between Feb. 3, 2021 and March 21, 2024.
Ford said it is concerned the recalled vehicles contain a body control module (BCM) that may falsely detect a current overload on one or both of the rear position lamp circuits, causing one or both tail lights to be deactivated during a drive cycle.
“Rear position lamps that fail to illuminate can cause reduced visibility to other drivers in dark conditions, increasing the risk of a collision,” the Ford Maverick recall says.
Ford to fix recalled Mavericks free of charge
Ford said it will notify affected vehicle owners by mail and instruct them to take the vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have their BCM calibration updated to the latest level, free of charge.
The automaker expects to begin mailing recall notification letters to affected vehicle owners on May 20, and expects to complete the mailing process by May 24 according to the Ford Maverick recall.
Ford issued a separate recall last month for more than 456,000 model year 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and model year 2022-2023 Maverick vehicles over concerns they could lose drive power due to a defective body and powertrain control module.
