Toyota Tundra, Ford recall overview:

  • Who: Toyota recalled certain 2022 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles, and Ford recalled some 2022 model year Broncos and Rangers.
  • Why: The Tundras’ axle shaft may separate, and the Fords’ windshields can come off.
  • Where: The recalls are nationwide.

Toyota recalled more than 45,000 of its 2022 Tundra and Tundra hybrid vehicles, and Ford issued a recall of more than 63,000 Broncos and Rangers. Read on for more details.

Toyota Tundra recall issued over axle shaft issue

The National Highway Transport Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a recall notice June 23 for 46,176 2022 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles as the axle shaft may separate.

“Axle shaft separation can cause a loss of vehicle stability and brake performance, increasing the risk of a crash,” the Toyota Tundra recall notice says.

The cause of the issue is the flange nuts on the axle shaft sub-assemblies, which can loosen over time and potentially cause one or both axle shaft subassemblies to separate from the axle housing, the NHTSA says.

Dealers will inspect the rear axle assembly, tighten the axle flange nuts, and replace any damaged axle-related components if necessary, free of charge, according to the Toyota Tundra recall notice. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 15.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Ford Broncos, Rangers recalled due to potential windshield detachment

Meanwhile, Ford recalled 39,063 Broncos and 24,321 Rangers. The recall applies to 2022 model year Broncos and Rangers built from December 2021 to April 2022, AutoBlog reports.

Faulty bonding in the windshields of the vehicles can lead to the windshield coming off in a crash, according to the Ford recall. In addition to the windshield potentially detaching, there could be issues with extra wind noise or water leaks.

The issue came to light after Ford received a complaint about an owner’s vehicle. This led to an investigation that discovered the faulty windshield bonding issue. No accidents or injuries have been reported so far.

Ford dealers will remove the windshields from affected vehicles and reinstall them correctly. The entire procedure will be done for free, the Ford recall states.

Ford will send letters to affected owners starting July 11.

Ford is also not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions will continue to follow this story.

Nissan and Ford both issued recalls for certain vehicles last month with Nissan recalling certain Pathfinder vehicles and Ford recalling certain F-150 Lightning trucks.
