Ram class action lawsuit overview:

A new class action lawsuit accuses FCA US of selling 2025 model year Ram 1500 trucks while knowing the vehicles had a dangerous engine defect.
Plaintiffs Charlene Norberg and Tim Craig filed the class action complaint against FCA on Aug. 25 in Michigan federal court, alleging violations of state and federal consumer laws.
According to the class action lawsuit, there is a latent defect in model year 2025 Ram 1500 vehicles equipped with 3.0L Hurricane engines that were imported and distributed across the United States.
The plaintiffs claim FCA failed to disclose that the vehicles contain a defectively designed, calibrated and/or manufactured engine control module and/or powertrain control module.
The plaintiffs argue this defect causes persistent diagnostic trouble codes, check engine illumination, drivability issues, loss of engine power and loss of power brakes. They also allege repeated repair attempts to resolve the issue have failed.
Plaintiffs claims their Ram 1500 trucks lost power while driving on the highway
According to the class action lawsuit, when the defect manifests, it can cause the Ram 1500 trucks engines to stall, hesitate, misfire and/or lose power, including when the vehicles are being operated.
Owners and lessees of the Ram trucks have complained that they have entirely lost power and control when driving on the highway, the lawsuit alleges.
“The sudden stalling causes the vehicles to unexpectedly hesitate, stop, stall and/or misfire, posing a danger to the drivers and occupants of the vehicles, and others who share the road with them, as other vehicles can collide with vehicles after they unexpectedly stop,” the Ram class action lawsuit says.
The plaintiffs allege FCA actively concealed the fact that the Ram 1500 trucks were prone to the defect, and that it also did not reveal that the defect would diminish the intrinsic and resale value of the vehicles.
Although FCA has long been aware of the defect, the company has been unable or unwilling to adequately repair the Ram 1500 trucks when the defect manifests, the plaintiffs allege.
The class action lawsuit points to numerous consumer complaints from Ram truck owners who have brought their vehicles in for service as many as eight times for attempted repairs of the defect but have yet to receive an adequate repair.
The plaintiffs are looking to represent anyone in the United States who are current or former owners and/or lessees of a 2025 model year Ram 1500 truck.
They are suing for breach of warranty, fraudulent concealment and violations of state and federal consumer laws, and they seek certification of the Ram class action, damages, fees, costs and a jury trial.
In August, Stellantis recalled various 2026 and 2027 model year Ram 1500 pickups as well as Chrysler minivans, Dodge Chargers and multiple Jeep Cherokee models due to a software issue that could impair the functionality of rearview cameras.
