Firehouse Jams Bacon Marmalade Recall Overview:
- Who: Firehouse Jams is recalling about 709 pounds of bacon marmalade products.
- Why: The marmalades were produced without legally required federal inspections.
- Where: The recall is nationwide.
Firehouse Jams is recalling more than 700 pounds of bacon marmalade because the products didn’t go through the legally required inspection process.
The recall was issued on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on Apr. 16.
The recall applies to all Firehouse Jams 10.5-oz. jars containing “Eat This – YUM! – Uncured Bacon Marmalade with Oranges and Balsamic Caramelized Onions” with lot codes 7/23, 11/23, 12/23 and 3/24 with a two-year shelf-life.
The problem was discovered when FSIS was notified by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) of a complaint received through the OIG’s hotline, the recall says.
FSIS investigated the complaint and discovered that the products were produced in an establishment that was not inspected by FSIS. Firehouse Jams is based in Pennsylvania.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions to the product so far, the recall states. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
The company is not currently facing legal action over the Firehouse Jams bacon marmalade recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
Firehouse Jam Recall Notice Advises Consumers Not To Eat These Products
Meanwhile, FSIS said it is concerned that some bacon marmalade product may be in consumers’ refrigerators or pantries.
The uncured bacon marmalade was produced on July 10, 2021, Dec. 3, 2021, and Mar. 1, 2022, the recall notice says.
“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them,” the Firehouse Jams recall notice says. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
The product subject to recall bears establishment number “EST. 47682” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were sold online and shipped to retail locations nationwide.
FSIS said it routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify that recalling firms have notified their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.
In other bacon-related news, last year Hormel faced a class action lawsuit alleging it ramped up the price of one of its bacon’s offerings, claiming it contained less fat, when in reality, it only had less fat due to a reduced serving size.
The plaintiffs filed the class action against Hormel Foods Sales, LLC and Hormel Foods, LLC in 2021, alleging violations of warranty law and consumer law.
