Companies recently initiated recalls involving bicycles and their parts over safety concerns like fall and crash risks. The bicycle parts include tires, disc brake calipers, cranksets, brake hoses, stems and handlebars. 

A bicycle manufacturer may choose to initiate a recall if the bicycle or its parts contains a defect that makes it dangerous for individuals to ride. 

Pirelli recalls 15,000+ bicycle tires over deflation concerns 

Tire maker Pirelli recalled around 14,500 of its Pirelli P ZERO Race TLR Bicycle Tires earlier this month over concerns the tires could rapidly deflate. 

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published the recall, which also includes around 550 tires sold in Canada, Sept. 7. 

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Pirelli tires and contact the company to receive a full refund or free replacement tires, the recall notice states. 

Pirelli says it received one report of a recalled tire experiencing rapid air loss, with the issue resulting in a minor injury. 

Lectric recalls 45,000 e-bikes due to potentially defective mechanical disk brake calipers

Lectric Ebikes recalled 45,000 of its e-bicycles earlier this month over concerns they were equipped with defective mechanical disk brake calipers on both the front and back of the bike that can fail, creating a crash risk. 

The recall involves six different e-bicycle models Lectric sold on its website from Nov. 2022 to May 2023 for $1,000 to $1,200. 

Consumers should stop using the recalled Lectric e-bicycles and contact the company to receive a mechanical caliper repair kit, free of cost, according to the recall notice

Lectric says it received four reports of riders experiencing a loss of braking power while riding the recalled e-bicycles, resulting in two injuries, including cuts, scrapes and a broken bone. 

Shimano recalls 760,000 cranksets over separation, breakage concerns 

Shimano recalled around 680,000 of its 11-Speed Bonded Hollowtech II Road Cranksets earlier this month over concerns parts of the cranksets can separate and break, creating a crash hazard. 

The CPSC published the recall, which includes an additional 80,000 units sold in Canada, Sept. 21. 

Shimano says it received 4,519 reports of the recalled cranksets separating, resulting in six injuries, including bone fractures, lacerations and joint displacements. 

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Shimano cranksets to contact an authorized dealer to schedule an appointment for a crankset inspection, free of cost, the recall notice states. 

Woom Bikes recalls more than 84,000 kids’ bikes over stem, handlebar detachment concerns 

Woom Bikes recalled more than 84,000 of its kids’ bikes in July over concerns their stem and handlebar can detach, presenting an injury risk. 

The CPSC published the recall, which includes around 533 kids’ bikes sold in Canada, July 6. 

Woom says it received 77 reports of the handlebar stem on the recalled kids’ bikes detaching or loosening, resulting in a total of 19 injuries, including bruising, cuts or abrasions. 

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Woom Bikes kids’ bikes and contact the company directly to receive a free repair kit, according to the recall notice.

Trek recalls 96,000+ bicycles over concerns brake hose can detach from brake lever

Road bicycle company Trek initiated a recall for more than 96,000 of its bicycles in June over concerns they were built with a brake hose that can detach, creating a crash risk. 

The CPSC published the recall June 15. It involves Trek bikes equipped with Revision 1 of the Promax Solve DSK-925 and Promax F1 DSK-927 hydraulic disc brakes.

Trek says it received 195 reports of the brake hose detaching from the brake lever on the recalled bicycles, with no injuries caused. 

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Trek bicycles and contact a local authorized Trek dealer to schedule a free inspection and repair, according to the recall.
