Northrop Grumman agreed to a $75 million class action settlement to resolve claims it contaminated soil and groundwater in Canoga Park, California.

The Northrop Grumman settlement benefits current and former owners of single-family homes or townhomes in the Canoga Park and Winnetka areas of California. It covers those who own an eligible property as of Aug. 11, 2026, as well as those who owned their property as of July 1, 2024, but have since sold it.

A map of the settlement area and sub-areas can be found on the settlement website.

According to the class action lawsuit, Northrop Grumman contaminated soil and groundwater in Canoga Park, California, with trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethylene (PCE). The soil contamination by these harmful chemicals allegedly caused property values to decrease and required mitigation measures to be installed in homes.

Northrop Grumman is an aerospace and defense technology company based in Virginia.

Northrop Grumman has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $75 million class action settlement to resolve the lawsuit allegations.

Under the terms of the Northrop Grumman settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the sub-area of the class area their home is located in.

Sub-area A has approximately 789 homes and will receive 40% of the net settlement fund. Current homeowners from this area can receive an estimated payment of $21,110 per home.

Sub-area B has approximately 727 homes and will receive 28% of the net settlement fund. Current homeowners from this area can receive an estimated payment of $16,037 per home.

Sub-area C has approximately 1,778 homes and will receive 32% of the net settlement fund. Current homeowners from this area can receive an estimated payment of $7,494 per home.

Former owners of homes in the class area can receive a payment of $444 per home.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Sept. 25, 2026.

The final approval hearing for the class action settlement is scheduled for Nov. 12, 2026.

To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Oct. 10, 2026.
