Yamaha Golf Car recall overview:

  • Who: Yamaha recalled about 13,000 golf cars and personal transportation vehicles.
  • Why: The accelerator can fail to return to its resting position.
  • Where: The Yamaha Golf Car recall is active in the United States.

Yamaha has initiated a recall of about 13,000 golf cars and personal transportation vehicles (PTVs), as the accelerator can fail to return to its resting position, posing a risk of death.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website published the recall July 6. It applies to model year 2023 Yamaha Golf Cars, PTVs and Umax.

According to the recall, the accelerator spring can dislodge and the accelerator pedal may not return to the resting position, posing crash and injury or death hazards.

No injuries or deaths have been reported so far, the company says. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Immediately stop using vehicles, Yamaha recall states

Yamaha sold about 11,000 of the affected vehicles in the United States and about 2,200 in Canada at Yamaha Golf Car dealerships and distributors nationwide from August 2022 through March 2023 for between $6,200 and $9,700.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled 2023 Yamaha Golf Car, PTV and Umax and contact Yamaha for a free inspection and repair, the recall notice states. Yamaha is contacting known purchasers directly.

Yamaha sold the vehicles in various colors, including white, blue, green and orange. The model name is on the left and right side of the vehicle and the serial number is on the frame.

Yamaha initiated a separate recall in February for five models of its golf cars and PTVs, totaling around 5,000 vehicles, due to a brake failure that poses a crash hazard to users and bystanders.
