Clear Eyes recall overview:

  • Who: Prestige Brands Holdings is recalling 39,060 bottles of Clear Eyes Maximum Itchy Eye Relief.
  • Why: The recall is due to a lack of assurance of sterility, which could lead to potential contamination.
  • Where: The recall is active nationwide in the United States.

Prestige Brands is recalling approximately 40,000 bottles of its Clear Eyes Maximum Itchy Eye Relief drops due to concerns over sterility.

The Clear Eyes recall affects only lot 2552A, which has an expiration date of Sept. 30, 2027, and involves 0.5-ounce dropper bottles sold at major retailers like Walmart.

The voluntary recall, initiated on July 29, is still ongoing. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall is classified as Class II, indicating that the product may cause temporary or reversible health issues, though the risk of serious harm is low.

The concern arose when potential contamination was detected during production, though no actual contamination has been confirmed. “The company acted ‘out of an abundance of caution’,” Phil Terpolilli, a spokesman for the manufacturer, told media sources.

Consumers urged not to use affected eye drops, return them to place of purchase

The recall notice advises consumers to discontinue use of the product and return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

For more information about the Clear Eyes recall, consumers can contact the company at 877-274-1787 or visit the FDA’s website for further details.

Prestige Brands says it has not received any reports of illness related to the Clear Eyes recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
