Kroger, Stop & Shop Caramel Rice Cakes Recalled for Undeclared Milk Allergen

Kroger and Stop & Shop branded Caramel Rice Cakes are being recalled after they were found to contain an undeclared milk allergen.

Ohio-based company Basic Grain Products, Inc., issued the voluntary recall of the 6.5-ounce bags after discovering two lots of the product contained the milk allergen, states the recall notice.

To date, there have been no reports or illness because of the undeclared allergen, the company says.

Although Basic Grains Products, Inc. is not currently facing legal action, Top Class Actions monitors product recalls in the interest of consumer safety, and as they can sometimes result in class action lawsuits.

However, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product, and are urged not to consume it and dispose of it or return it to the point of purchase, the company said.

“Individuals exhibiting signs or symptoms of foodborne illness or allergies should contact a physician immediately.”

The affected batches of Kroger Caramel Rice Cakes were sold in Colorado, Indiana, and Kansas, and have a UPC code of 0 11110 35792 2 and use by dates of Dec. 15, 2021, and December 16, 2021.

The affected batches of Stop & Shop Caramel Rice Cakes were sold in Connecticut and Pennsylvania, and have a UPC code of 6 88267 07615 2 and best before date of Dec. 15, 2021.

The use by and best before dates (also the lot code) are located on the plastic Kwik Lok tag at the top of the bag.

Consumers with questions regarding this recall can contact Basic Grain Products’ customer service desk via email or phone at 1-888-386-2075 M-F, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm EST.

Recently, Wolfies Roasted Nut Co. also had to issue a voluntary recall of its Cheddar & Jalapeno Artisan Nuts due to an undeclared milk allergen and undeclared artificial colorings, and earlier in April Trader Joe’s recalled three lots of its white corn tortilla chips after they were found to contain undisclosed milk allergens.
