Ohio-based company More Than Gourmet, Inc. has recalled approximately 6,896 pounds of ready-to-eat beef and veal broth and stock products due to possible contamination from hydraulic oil.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall on April 25.
The recalled items include a 12-oz bottle of organic beef bone broth concentrate and a 16-oz. plastic cup of French demi-glace. The affected items were produced on March 1, April 7, and April 8, and were sold nationwide, the company said.
Although More Than Gourmet, Inc. is not currently facing legal action, Top Class Actions monitors product recalls in the interest of consumer safety, and as they can sometimes result in class action lawsuits.
The contamination was due to a malfunction in a piece of processing equipment, the notice states. So far, there have been no confirmed reports of illness due to consumption of the products.
Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
The recalled products are:
- Kitchen Accomplice Organic Beef Bone Broth Concentrate: 12-oz plastic squeeze bottle; lot code MFGA21060A5613, MFGA21060B5613, and MFGA21098B5613; use by/sell by dates of 3/1/2023, and 4/8/2023.
- More Than Gourmet Demi-Glace Gold Classic French Demi-Glace: 16-oz. plastic cup; lot code MFGA21097A0205; use by/sell by date of 4/7/2023.
The recalled items have the establishment number “27446” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
FSIS said that it was concerned that some consumers might have the products in their refrigerators or freezers, and urged them not to consume them.
“These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
Consumers with questions about the recall can contact More Than Gourmet, Inc. customer service at 800-860-9391 and sales@morethangourmet.com and members of the media can contact Paul Taylor, Vice President at 330-762-6652.
Food and dietary products are often subjected to recalls over contamination. In April, Kraft and Annie’s both had class action lawsuits filed against them for alleged plastic contamination in their mac and cheese.
