Man claims Escalade electrical defects in lawsuit against GM

A Louisiana man has filed a lawsuit against General Motors claiming that his 2020 Escalade no longer starts and has issues with its battery due to electrical defects.

Plaintiff Brandon Terrell says he purchased a new Escalade from a dealership in March of 2020. He says he quickly began experiencing problems with the nearly $75,000 vehicle, including the car failing to start and the battery draining. He claims the Escalade has been out of service for more than 100 days due to these problems.

Terrell asserts that the problems are due to electrical defects in the Escalade. He claims that he has returned the vehicle to authorized dealers for repair on numerous occasions, but all repair attempts have failed.

Although this is not a class action lawsuit, TCA covers alleged automotive defects to help keep consumers safe and informed.

Terrell contends that the Escalade electrical defects were hidden from him at the time of purchase.

“Neither Plaintiff nor a reasonable prudent buyer would have purchased the ESCALADE had he known of the defects prior to the sale,” states the lawsuit.

In addition, Terrell says that General Motors has been given a reasonable number of times to repair the vehicle, but has failed, entitling him to a refund, along with compensation for other costs. Indeed, the lawsuit lodged against General Motors is seeking a court order requiring the carmaker to rescind the sale of Terrell’s Escalade, along with the money he has already paid in an attempt to repair it.

Escalade Issues Spark Recalls And Lawsuits

GM’s Cadillac Escalade is no stranger to allegations of defects. Recently, 2007 through 2014 Escalades were subject to a defective airbag recall, along with at least 100 million other vehicles.

2015 to 2020 Cadillac Escalades were also included in the Chevy shake class action lawsuit filed in 2019 that alleged a defect caused violent shaking at high speeds. According to the complaint, the Chevy shake problem is caused by a defective drive shaft that is part of the driveline.
