Nissan is recalling nearly 48,000 Nissan Cube vehicles from the 2009 and 2010 model years due to a potential issue with the air bag inflator detaching during deployment.
The recall notice, published on April 10, highlights 47,928 units of the Nissan Cube. The problem arises from the air bag inflator, which may come loose from the steering wheel when the air bag is deployed.
This defect could result in the inflator striking the driver or passengers, thereby increasing the risk of injury, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
“A driver’s air bag that detaches can strike the driver or other occupants, increasing the risk of injury during a crash,” the Nissan recall notice says.
Dealers to inspect Nissan Cube air bags and replace if needed
The Nissan recall notice indicates that dealers will inspect the serial number of the front air bag inflator and replace it if necessary, at no cost to the vehicle owners.
Nissan plans to notify affected owners by mail starting May 27. In the meantime, owners can contact Nissan’s customer service for more information or check their vehicle identification numbers on the NHTSA website.
Consumers can reach out to Nissan’s customer service at 1-800-647-7261. Additionally, the vehicle identification numbers involved in this Nissan recall are searchable on the NHTSA website.
Nissan says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
In February, Nissan recalled more than 26,000 vehicles, affecting multiple models, due to a potential door latch safety hazard.
