Ford recall overview:
- Who: Ford is recalling more than 140,000 Ford Ranger vehicles.
- Why: A wiring issue in the sun visor may cause an electrical short and fire.
- Where: The Ford recall is active in the United States.
Ford is recalling more than 140,000 Ford Ranger vehicles from model years 2024 to 2026 due to a potential fire hazard linked to the sun visor wiring.
The recall notice, issued on April 14, affects 140,201 Ford Ranger trucks.
The issue stems from improperly positioned wiring harnesses or excessive tape thickness, which could lead to damaged wires. This defect may cause an electrical short, increasing the risk of a fire in the A-pillar area, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
“Damaged wires can create an electrical short and cause a fire in the A-pillar area, increasing the risk of injury or a crash,” the recall notice says.
Ford has not reported any injuries or crashes related to this Ranger recall but has acknowledged three warranty claims, two field reports and one customer service report potentially linked to the issue.
The company is taking steps to address the problem by inspecting and replacing the wiring harnesses as needed and updating the body control module software at no cost to the consumer.
Ford outlines phased recall plan for Ranger fire risk
Ford’s recall strategy involves a three-phased approach to address the issue across different model years.
Phase 1 targets the 2025 model year vehicles, with owners receiving notifications by mail starting the week of May 31, 2026. Phase 2 will cover the 2026 model year, with notifications sent the week of June 29, 2026, and Phase 3 will address the 2024 model year, with notifications dispatched the week of July 27, 2026.
Interim letters alerting owners to the safety risk will be mailed beginning April 27, 2026, with further communication planned once the remedy is available in August 2026.
