Mercedes-Benz USA LLC is recalling more than 144,000 vehicles across multiple model lines due to a software defect that can cause the digital instrument panel to go dark while the vehicle is being driven.
The recall notice covers 144,049 units across the 2024-2026 model years. Affected vehicles span a wide range of Mercedes-Benz lines, including the AMG GT, C-Class, E-Class, SL, CLE and GLC, as well as the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 4MATIC+, covering 61 distinct model configurations in total.
The Mercedes-Benz recall says the affected vehicles’ infotainment control unit may reset while the vehicle is in motion and cause the instrument panel display to go blank.
This means drivers could momentarily lose access to critical readouts, such as their speedometer and warning indicators — without any advance warning — while the system reboots.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has flagged this as a safety-related electrical system defect, stating: “an instrument panel display that fails to show critical safety information, such as the speedometer and warning lights, increases the risk of a crash.”
Dealers to update Mercedes-Benz infotainment software free of charge
According to the official recall notice, dealers will update the infotainment control unit software at no cost to vehicle owners. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by June 26.
In the meantime, owners can contact Mercedes-Benz’s customer service at 1-800-367-6372. Vehicle identification numbers involved in this recall have been searchable on the NHTSA website since May 8.
Mercedes-Benz has not reported any crashes or injuries related to this defect. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

6 thoughts onMercedes-Benz recalls 144K vehicles due to instrument panel display failure
Purchased a 2025 GLC 300, screen went out twice. The software was just updated, hopefully I no longer have these issues.
Yes! Happened on my GLE350!! Very scary to drive without an instrument panel! My car also suffers from the “easy entry and exit” feature on the driver seat not working! Makes it difficult to comfortably get in and out! I think I have a LEMON!! Waiting more than 6 months for a software update to hopefully resolve the seat issue. Just horrible! Really surprised MB has such issues. Customer service is non responsive as well! UGH!!!
I bought a 2026 Mercedes 53 AmG. I love the car, no complaints it works perfect so far. High technology with AI.
I just bought a MB C class. I have 2,000 miles. so far,. so good.
