Kia has agreed to a class action settlement to resolve claims that certain Kia Optima and Sportage vehicles are equipped with defective window regulators.
The Kia settlement benefits current and former owners and lessees of certain 2016-2017 Kia Optima and 2017 Kia Sportage vehicles. A full list of eligible vehicles is available on the settlement website.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim Kia vehicles are equipped with defective window regulators that can cause the power window system to malfunction.
Kia is an automotive company that sells vehicles around the world, including in the United States.
The company has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to an undisclosed sum to resolve the allegations surrounding the Kia Optima and Sportage window regulator.
Under the terms of the Kia settlement, class members can receive reimbursement for out-of-pocket costs related to window regulator repairs.
The Kia settlement provides tiered reimbursement based on the mileage of the vehicle at the time of the out-of-warranty failure. Vehicles with under 35,000 miles at the time of failure are eligible for 100% reimbursement, while vehicles with over 125,001 miles are eligible for 40% reimbursement. The settlement caps reimbursements at $400 per window regulator repair, with higher caps available for some class members.
Class members who own their vehicles can opt to receive a dealer service card valued at $40 instead of reimbursement for out-of-pocket repair costs. These class members can also choose to receive both a dealer service card and reimbursement.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Oct. 23, 2026.
The final approval hearing for the Kia settlement is scheduled for Jan. 7, 2027.
To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Nov. 23, 2026.
