The Jefferson County Health Department settlement benefits Missouri residents who utilized the Jefferson County Health Center’s services and whose protected health information was compromised in the data breach discovered on Nov. 15, 2022.
The Jefferson County Health Department is a public health facility in Hillsboro, Missouri, that offers a variety of health services to the community.
According to a class action lawsuit, the Jefferson County Health Center failed to prevent a data breach that occurred between Oct. 31 and Nov. 15, 2022, due to its inadequate cybersecurity measures. The Jefferson County Health Department data breach compromised sensitive patient information, such as names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account information, health insurance data, medical information and more.
Plaintiffs in the case say they would not have chosen to receive medical care from the Jefferson County Health Center if they had known their information would not be adequately protected.
