Kia has recalled more than 460,000 Telluride vehicles from model years 2020 to 2024 due to a risk of fire while driving or parked.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has identified that the front power seat motor may overheat, potentially causing a fire whether the vehicle is parked or in motion.
The NHTSA also announced a “park outside” alert, with reports of 7 seat fires and 11 seat motors melting.
The NHTSA issued the recall notice on July 2, affecting 462,869 units. The issue stems from a stuck power seat slide knob or an improper repair from a previous recall, identified as 24V407 and issued in 2024.
Kia has advised owners to park their vehicles outside and away from other vehicles or structures until the necessary repairs are completed.
Owners should park Kia Tellurides outside until repairs are completed
The owners of affected Kia Telluride vehicles can expect to receive notifications by mail starting Aug. 13.
In the meantime, Kia has instructed owners to take their vehicles to a Kia dealer for repairs, where technicians will install an electronic fuse assembly at no cost to prevent the seat motor from overheating. The automaker also says owners should park outside and away from buildings until they can get their vehicles repaired.
This Kia recall marks at least the third instance in recent years where Kia has issued a “park outside” recall, highlighting ongoing concerns about vehicle fire risks.

Kia says it has received reports of 7 seat fires and 11 seat motors melting, but no reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the Kia recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
