Chrysler is recalling more than 328,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles due to a defect that may cause rear coil springs to detach while driving, posing a significant crash risk.
The recall, announced on Sept. 1, affects specific models of the 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE.
Chrysler has identified that the vehicles in question were produced between Dec. 5, 2020, and May 31, 2023, for the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, and between May 17, 2021, and May 31, 2023, for the Jeep Grand Cherokee and 4XE models.
According to the Jeep recall notice, “A rear coil spring that detaches from the vehicle while driving creates a road hazard to operators and occupants of other vehicles and can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning and/or may result in injury to other road users.”
Jeep Grand Cherokee owners urged to seek repairs as soon as possible
The Jeep recall notice highlights that there are no specific warnings before the coil springs may detach, increasing the urgency for affected vehicle owners to seek repairs.
The company has acknowledged receiving 29 customer assistance records and 406 warranty claims related to this Jeep recall issue, although no accidents or injuries have been reported so far.
To address the defect, Chrysler will replace the rear coil spring lower isolators free of charge. The company will notify vehicle owners by Sept. 29.
The current recall, number 26V562, supersedes previous recalls identified as 26V051 and 23V413, and vehicles repaired under those recalls will require the new remedy.

Chrysler says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the Jeep Cherokee recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
However, Chrysler is facing a class action lawsuit claiming it misrepresented the safety and dependability of its Jeep Wrangler 4XE and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE plug-in hybrid electric SUVs that underwent multiple recalls.
