- Why: Contaminated LED chips can cause headlights and other exterior lamps to dim or fail, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Where: The recall is active in the United States.
Ford Motor Company is recalling 41,748 vehicles because their headlights and other exterior lamps may fail, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notice filed on Sept. 22.
The Ford recall, numbered 26V606, covers 17,512 F-250, 10,295 F-350, 523 F-450 and 120 F-550 Super Duty trucks from model year 2026, plus 13,298 Ford Expedition SUVs from model years 2025-2027.
The Super Duty trucks were built from Aug. 4, 2025, through Aug. 4, 2026, and the Expeditions from June 24, 2025, through July 2, 2026. Ford estimates that 1% have the defect.
According to the notice, LED chips in the headlamp assemblies may have been contaminated at the chip supplier’s facility. Super Duty trucks may lose daytime running lamps, parking lamps, low beams or high beams, while the Ford Expedition may lose low or high beams.
“Inoperable exterior lighting features may reduce visibility for the driver and/or make the vehicle less visible to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash,” the recall notice states.
The Ford recall notice advises drivers that a dashboard indicator light will illuminate if the low or high beams stop working.
Ford Expedition, Super Duty owners to get free headlamp inspections
According to the recall notice, owners will be instructed to take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have both headlamp assemblies inspected. Dealers will replace any that fail at no charge.
Dealers will be notified between Oct. 26 and 30, and owner letters are expected to be mailed from Nov. 6 to 13. Starting Oct. 26, owners can search their vehicle identification number in NHTSA’s recall database.

Ford reports six warranty claims and six field reports but no accidents or injuries related to the recall. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
In early September, Ford recalled more than 223,000 of its F-150 trucks due to concerns that the fuel tanks may not be properly secured.
