General Motors is recalling all of its Cadillac Vistiq electric SUVs due to a defect in the third-row power-folding seats, which could pose a risk of trapping and injuring small occupants.
The Cadillac recall, announced on June 18 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), affects 14,540 units of the 2026-2027 Cadillac Vistiq models.
The issue arises from the one-touch power-folding feature of the third-row seats, which may not automatically retract if an obstacle is encountered, potentially trapping smaller occupants under the seatbacks.
According to the NHTSA report, the seatback continued its operation even with a 33- to 40-pound box on the seat, stopping in a position that prevented removal without manual intervention.
No injuries reported so far in Cadillac Vistiq recall
GM, Cadillac’s parent company, reported six complaints related to this issue, although no injuries have been reported so far.
The Cadillac recall was initiated following an internal investigation by a GM engineer through the company’s Speak Up For Safety program.
Shipments of the 2027 model-year Vistiq SUVs were halted as of June 8, 2026, to prevent further distribution of potentially affected vehicles.
The company is taking proactive steps to address the issue. Dealers will disable the third-row folding feature until replacement parts are available. Once the parts are ready, the seat module will be replaced at no cost to the owners.
Cadillac plans to notify owners via mail by Aug. 3 with instructions on how to proceed with the Cadillac recall.

GM says it has received six complaints related to the Cadillac recall so far, but no injuries. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Currently, GM is facing a lawsuit over claims that its Cadillac Lyriq electric vehicles are defective and can become inoperable due to multiple design defects.
