Honda class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: A group of six consumers has filed a class action lawsuit against American Honda Motor Co. Inc. and Honda Motor Co. Ltd.
  • Why: The plaintiffs allege the automaker sold vehicles with defective turbocharged engines that are prone to overheating, head gasket failure and other problems.
  • Where: The Honda class action was filed in California federal court.

A new class action lawsuit accuses American Honda Motor Co. Inc. and Honda Motor Co. Ltd. of selling vehicles with defective turbocharged engines that are prone to overheating, head gasket failure and other problems.

Plaintiff Radley Alcantara and five others filed the Honda turbocharged engine lawsuit against Honda on July 1 in California federal court.

The plaintiffs allege Honda’s 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged engines, found in vehicles like the Honda Accord, Civic, CR-V, Acura RDX and TLX from model years 2016 to 2022, have a design defect that causes engine coolant to leak into the cylinders.

This leads to overheating, head gasket failure and other serious issues, they say.

Honda refuses to fix defect, lawsuit claims

The plaintiffs argue that this defect poses a significant safety risk, as it can cause vehicles to lose power suddenly, potentially leading to accidents.

They claim Honda was aware of the defect but failed to disclose it to consumers, leaving them with unreliable and expensive vehicles.

The lawsuit alleges the automaker has refused to fix the problem under warranty, forcing consumers to pay out of pocket for repairs.

The plaintiffs are suing for breach of warranty, unjust enrichment and violations of consumer protection laws. They are seeking certification of the Honda turbocharged engines class action lawsuit, damages, fees and costs, and a jury trial.

Last year, Honda was hit with a similar class action alleging defects in its 1.5-liter i-VTEC turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine, which reportedly suffers from “inadequate sealing and cooling.” According to that lawsuit, coolant leaks into engine components, causing overheating, loss of power, and contamination of engine oil.

Mitch Williams, Dylan T. Martin and Trenton H. Mann of Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles PC.

The Honda turbocharged engines class action lawsuit is Alcantara, et al. v. American Honda Motor Co. Inc., et al., Case No. 2:25-cv-06009, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

This happened to my 2018 Honda accord. The dealership told us this is a known problem and I MIGHT get a refund for the repair IF Honda decides to do a recall. They didn’t and I got rid of the car. Terrible. Honda is supposed to be the few reliable good cars that people are WILLING to pay for. I definitely will be spreading the word to everyone I know

  2. Scott says:

Last month, April 2026, our 2017 CR-V experienced this failed head gasket and rendered the car unusable. The quoted range being estimated to us by the repair shop we took the car to would be between $6,000-$7,000 and it would have to happen at a Honda dealer if we did it. We decided not to because of the high expense and bought another car instead. Now I see there are a lot of people with the same issue.

  3. John Grier says:

I now have the “Multiple Systems Problem” warning lights appearing on my dashboard whenever I turn on the A/C unit, and it’s becoming very frustrating. I’m not sure what the exact issue is, but after contacting Honda, they stated there is no recall and advised me to take it to the nearest dealership for diagnostics.

Unfortunately, it seems like many consumers are being charged expensive diagnostic fees and having multiple parts replaced without a clear solution.

My vehicle is a 2018 Honda Accord 1.5T, and this issue recently started happening shortly after the fuel pump recall service was completed. I’m curious if anyone else with the 1.5T or 2.0T models has experienced something similar, especially after recall work was performed.

If have a 2019 accord 1.5T and same exact. The thing happened to me right after fuel pump change from recall

  4. Dbarry says:

I can’t believe there is no class action against Honda for the unbelievable number of fuel injector failures, or at least replacements reported allegedly causing every dashboard failure light to come on at startup and turning off various safety features of 2015 to even current models (as reported on the Honda owners website). Honda demanding a computer test fee of $150+ even if you bring in P codes already pulled by someone else, and then a replacement cost of $1500+ when the injectors can be purchased for about $210.

A mi también me paso lo mismo con mi honda accord sport 2018 1.5 con 65 mil millas lo lleve honda y me cobraban 8000 para repararlo

  6. Jose Ramirez says:

How can I get into this lawsuit 2021 accord 1.5 80k blown head gasket with misfires and coolant leaking

    1. Brandon says:

I’m wondering the same! Ours just blew up too.
