Ford recalls more than 100,000 Mustangs due to safety concerns

Ford is recalling more than 100,000 Mustangs due to potential safety hazards. The recall affects various Mustang models, including the 2021-2023 Mach E, 2025-2026 GTD and 2024-2026 standard models.

The recall was announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on July 7. It involves 42,784 Ford Mustang Mach E vehicles, 289 Ford Mustang GTD models and 67,553 standard Ford Mustangs.

The Mach E models are being recalled because of a defect in the rear differential pinion shaft, which could fracture and result in unintended movement or loss of drive power. This defect could also cause the vehicle to move while in park if the parking brake is not engaged.

Meanwhile, the GTD and standard Mustang models are experiencing issues with their windshield wipers and washing systems, which may only function at high speed or fail entirely in cold temperatures.

Ford to offer free repairs or replacements

Ford is offering free repairs and replacements for all vehicles involved in the recall. 

For the Mach E models, owners can visit a Ford dealership to have the rear differential assembly repaired or replaced at no cost. Notification letters regarding the safety risk were scheduled to be sent to owners by July 13. A follow-up letter will be sent in December once a remedy becomes available.

For the GTD and standard Mustang models, notification letters were scheduled to be sent by July 9. A follow-up letter will be sent in March 2027 once a remedy is available.

Ford advises owners to check if their vehicle is part of the Ford recall by visiting NHTSA.gov and entering their vehicle identification number.

Additionally, Ford’s customer service is available at 1-866-436-7332 for any inquiries related to the Ford Mustang recall.

The automaker says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

In other recent Ford recalls, more than 255,000 Focus vehicles were called back due to a potential engine stalling issue.
