Mars Petcare has initiated a voluntary recall of two specific lots of its Pedigree Can High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor wet dog food.
The recall affects 185,184 cans that may contain hazardous foreign materials, such as metal and plastic, posing a risk to pets. The recall was announced on July 2, following the discovery that these products, intended for destruction, were fraudulently distributed into the marketplace.
The affected products are identified by lot codes 613C3KKCFC and 613C1KKCFC, and they come in 13.2oz cans.
“The potential presence of sharp metal and plastic foreign material in the cans could pose a hazard to your dog,” the Pedigree recall notice states. The company is actively collaborating with authorities to trace how these products entered the market.
Pedigree reports no pet injuries or illnesses related to wet dog food recall
Mars Petcare assures consumers that no other Pedigree or Mars Petcare products are affected by this recall. The company urges pet owners who have purchased the recalled wet dog food to cease its use immediately and contact Pedigree consumer care for a replacement.
The company has not received any reports of pet illness or injury related to the recalled products so far.
