Ford recall overview:ย

  • Who: Ford has recalled 70,483 of its 2024 Ford Ranger and 2024 Lincoln Nautilus vehicles.
  • Why: The windows may not automatically reverse while closing when an object is present in the window frame.
  • Where: The Ford recall is active in the United States.

Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 70,000 vehicles as the windows may not stop closing when they detect an object, potentially pinching drivers or passengers.ย

The Ford recall was published to the U.S. Transport Safety Administration website on Aug. 15.ย

It applies to about 70,483 model year 2024 Ford Ranger pickup trucks and model year 2024 Lincoln Nautilus SUVs.ย

According to the recall, when closing the windows with the global closing feature, they may not automatically reverse after detecting an object.ย ย

โ€œA closing window may exert excessive force by pinching a driver or passenger before retracting, increasing the risk of injury,โ€ the recall says.

The vehicles fail to comply with federal standards for power window systems, the recall states.ย

Software issue at heart of problem

The problem is caused by software logic in the driver and passenger door modules that can cause the window relative glass position to be reset during a module reset, disabling the automatic reversal system, the recall states. Drivers will not get any warning if there is an issue, it says.

Owners will be notified by mail from Sept. 23, 2024, and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the software updated. There will be no charge for this service.ย

Earlier this month, Ford Motor Co. was hit with a class action lawsuit alleging its EcoBoost engines contain a โ€œcriticalโ€ defect that causes engine coolant to leak into the engineโ€™s cylinders.
