Ram recall overview:

  • Who: Chrysler is recalling more than 265,000 Ram ProMaster vans, including the 1500, 2500 and 3500 models, as well as the electric ProMaster 3500.
  • Why: Water may intrude in the electric power steering system, leading to corrosion and loss of power steering assist.
  • Where: The Ram recall is active in the United States.

Ram is recalling more than 265,000 ProMaster vans due to potential power steering system issues. The recall, announced on Sept. 29, covers the 2022–2026 Ram ProMaster 1500, 2500 and 3500 models, along with the 2024–2026 electric ProMaster 3500.

According to the recall notice, water intrusion can corrode the wiring harness connectors, which may result in intermittent or complete loss of power steering assist. This defect poses a significant risk as it can lead to a sudden loss of vehicle control, increasing the likelihood of a crash.

Ram became aware of the issue in September 2025 after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) initiated an inquiry. The NHTSA received nine complaints regarding partial or complete loss of power steering, prompting an investigation.

As of June 2026, Ram had identified 2,799 warranty claims related to the issue, with an additional 974 reports following the initial findings.

The Ram recall states there are no warnings prior to the failure of the steering system, although an EPS warning light may activate once the power assist has failed.

Chrysler to replace electronic steering gear where necessary

To address the issue, Ram will inspect the wiring harnesses of all affected vans and replace them if necessary. Depending on the severity of the corrosion, some vehicles may require a complete replacement of the electronic power steering gear.

Ram has begun notifying customers with interim letters starting Nov. 17 and will send additional letters once a permanent solution is available.

Ram has assured customers that they will be notified when it is time to schedule a repair appointment, with the company aiming to resolve the issue by the end of the year.

For more information about the Ram recall, consumers can contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403 or visit the NHTSA website.

Ram says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the Ram recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

In early September, Chrysler recalled more than 239,000 Ram 1500 trucks due to a defect that can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying, increasing the risk of a crash.
