Botticelli Foods is recalling its Bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recall affects one specific lot of the product distributed in 19 states through Walmart stores.
The Walmart recall was announced on Aug. 3 following a routine inspection by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which detected Salmonella in samples of the product.
The affected product is packaged in 6.7oz (190g) glass jars, identified by UPC 194346207961 and Lot Code LB028ACP04, with an expiration date of Jan. 28, 2027.
Salmonella can cause severe infections, particularly in vulnerable populations, such as young children and the elderly.
“Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain,” the recall says.
Consumers urged to return affected pistachio nut butter
The Walmart recall notice says that the contaminated Bettergoods pistachio butter was manufactured in Italy by Gustibus Alimentari Srl and imported by Botticelli Foods. It was distributed exclusively by Walmart Inc. in states including Alabama, Alaska and Florida, among others.
The potential health risk posed by Salmonella contamination is significant, as it can lead to serious and sometimes fatal infections. The recall notice advises consumers to avoid consuming the affected product and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Botticelli Foods is taking proactive measures to address the issue by recalling the affected lot and informing consumers about the potential risk. The company is working closely with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to ensure the safety of its products.
For more information about the Walmart recall, consumers can contact Botticelli Foods at 631-543-7000, extension 203, or via email at [email protected]. The company’s representatives are available to assist between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EDT.
Botticelli Foods says it has not received any reports of illness related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Currently, Walmart is facing a lawsuit after ConsumerLab.com reportedly found that Walmart’s Great Value Organic Chia Seeds contained eight times the allowable level of mold.
