The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a public health alert after discovering that a ground beef product produced by FBS Hudson may have been contaminated with E. coli.
The product in question is FBS Hudson’s 1-lb. packages of Frank’s Butcher Shop Ground Beef containing “packed on” dates of Oct. 7, 2022 and Oct. 10, 2022, according to the public health notice posted on Oct. 13.
The FSIS says the Frank’s Butcher Shop ground beef product—which was sold directly to consumers by FBS Hudson—will not be subject to a recall since it is no longer available to be purchased.
FBS Hudson is “actively attempting” to get in contact with consumers who may have purchased the 14 packages of ground beef product that is now subject to the public health alert, according to the FSIS.
FBS Hudson discovered contamination after routine microbial testing
The issue was discovered after FBS Hudson alerted the FSIS that it had discovered a contamination of E. coli in a sample of its ground beef following routine microbial testing on its product.
Consumers who may have purchased the ground beef product subject to the public health alert are being urged not to consume them and to either toss them out or return them to their original place of purchase, according to the public health alert.
The FSIS issued a separate public health alert last month over concerns that ground beef products in certain HelloFresh meal kits were contaminated with E. coli.
