Louisville Ladder is recalling more than 1.7 million attic stairway ladders due to a defect that could lead to serious injuries. The recall affects ladders sold under the Louisville, Featherlite, Lite and Century brands, which were available in various sizes to fit different attic openings.
The recall, announced on Aug. 6, involves ladders with gas struts, which can be identified by the brand name and model number located inside the attic door.
The ladders have been sold at major retailers, such as The Home Depot and Lowe’s, and online at Amazon.com from November 2012 through July 2026, with prices ranging from $170 to $600.
“The bolts on the attic stairway ladders can break while in use, posing a risk of serious injury or death from fall hazard,” the Louisville Ladder recall says.
Consumers urged to stop using recalled ladders immediately
Louisville Ladder advises consumers to immediately cease using the recalled ladders and to register for a free repair kit. The repair kit includes replacement bolts, washers and lock nuts, along with installation instructions.
The company has received 11 reports of bolt breakage, including one incident resulting in injuries to the neck, head and back.

Louisville Ladder says it has received 11 reports of bolt breakage, including one injury report. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
