Publix recall overview:

In July, Publix recalled its GreenWise Organic Frozen Blueberries and Whole Mixed Berries due to potential E. coli contamination, affecting consumers in eight Southern states.
The recall was updated on July 29 and was classified as a Class I recall by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), indicating a high risk of serious health consequences. The recall initially started with one lot of frozen berries being recalled on July 3.
The affected products included 10-ounce and 48-ounce packages of GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries and Mixed Berries, with specific UPCs provided for identification:
- GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries, 10-ounce, UPC 41415-06453
- GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries, 48-ounce, UPC 41415-12053
- GreenWise Organic Whole Mixed Berries, 10-ounce, UPC 41415-06753
- GreenWise Organic Whole Mixed Berries, 48-ounce, UPC 41415-12153
The Publix recall stemmed from E. coli O145 contamination, a strain that can lead to severe stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting, and in some cases, may cause hemolytic uremic syndrome, especially in vulnerable populations.
Consumers who still have the Publix frozen berries are advised not to eat them and to either throw them away or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.
Publix removes all GreenWise organic berries from sale amid recall
The FDA reported 12 illnesses linked to the contaminated berries in Florida and Georgia, with four hospitalizations but no fatalities. However, the last reported illness occurred on June 5.
“Publix is taking further action out of an abundance of caution to recall all lots of GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries and Whole Mixed Berries,” the company announcement said.
The berries were manufactured by Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. in San Carlos, Chile, and have been removed from store shelves since the end of June 2026.
The company has also provided contact information for consumers seeking more information or assistance. Customers can reach Publix Customer Care at (800) 242-1227, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern time.
The FDA reported 12 illnesses, 4 hospitalizations but no fatalities related to the outbreak. Publix is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
